Do What You Love for a Living

Want to be Happy? Do what you love for a living.

But know this: it’s going to take some work. Lots of planning.

And yes, more damn work.

But, when you do make it, smile. Because there’s probably nothing more gratifying than doing what you love and earning money from it.

It’s a win-win situation.

You get to enjoy what you do for a living and make money from it.

And sure, sometimes doing what you love can get stressful. Many people are stressed out every day at a job they don’t 100% enjoy.

They might get fed up and decide to switch jobs and move into a new career.

And if you’re thinking about making a change as well, this is for you.

I’m going to talk about the different ways you can effectively do what you love for a living. So you’ll never have to ask what should I do for a living ever again.

Your 15 Step Action Plan

1. Pinpoint The One Thing You Love Doing The Most

First off, before you do what you love for a living, you need to know what you love. You must identify one specific passion you think is worth the try.

Find out what you’re most passionate about. Something you can educate, inspire or entertain others with.

You know, the thing you love the most. And what you believe is your best shot of going from a side-hustle to a full-time money making thing.

Because if you love what you’re doing, work becomes less stressful.

And I’m sure you’ve seen people who love traveling around the world.

Visiting beautiful places. Trying new food, and posting their experiences online. Through blogs, documentaries, and other social media posts — many are making a living doing what they love.

And others, like me, prefer to share and express themselves through writing.

But… there are a bunch of different ways for you to be happy while doing what you love for a living.

Like starting your own business.

You might be good at more than one thing. But you have to find and commit to THE one that you believe will create the most success. And allow you to do what you love for a living.

Work on the thing that makes you the happiest. So you’ll have no regrets along your journey of making $$$ how you want.

2. Focus on Your Strengths

Let’s say you’re torn between two or three things you equally love doing.

In this case, you have to consider your strengths and capabilities. Then choose the one you’re most productive and the best at.

Most people are excellent at doing one or two things. But not everything.

And sometimes, there are things we love that don’t seem to love us back. In this case, the passion does not appear to match your talent.

For example, I love music. But I can’t sing or rap for shit. And I don’t have the voice or talent to fit or match my passion.

An sure, this can be fixed, just a bit by taking classes. But it’s much better to focus on what I’m actually good at.

Naturally.

Therefore, align your passion with what you’re good at. Figure it out and make the most out of it.

3. Set Aside Time to Make Shit Happen

This is a very important step: planning.

In every career or entrepreneurial path you take, you should have a clear and definite timeline of the activities you need to prepare for.

Write down your plans.

Because writing things down will remind you where you’re going. And what you have to get done.

It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to open up a new online business or start a new career. You have to be aware of your goals.

And the steps you need to achieve them. You can’t go into a battle without a game plan or strategy.

Your plan has to have specific times and dates.

Because you need some way of knowing whether you’re progressing or not. And when you’re ready, don’t wait around.

Start as early as you can.

As long as you have the resources, the will, and the ways, there’s no need for any delay.

Press forward.

4. Discover How to Make Money From Your Passion

Speaking of strategy, you’re also going to have to do some research.

How exactly are you going to make money from your passion? Because you have to make money from whatever you’re doing at some point to make it your full-time thing.

Here are some tips on how to do just that:

  • Build your own business centered around what you love to do
  • Search for firms, platforms, or companies that’ll hire you for what you do
  • Promote your business or craft on all the different social media platforms
  • Market your products or partner with someone who’ll sell what you provide

Creating your own business could take a lot of time, effort, and startup money. But when things take off, you own all of what you earn.

Minus the expenses and taxes of course.

Plus you’re living during a very amazing time.

Starting your own business and doing what you love for a living was never this easy 25-50 years ago.

The internet and social media marketing are powerful tools. And they’re here to stay. Use them to build and promote what you do.

You can reach millions of people online. Publicize what you’re all about. For example, I love writing. So I built my own website and publish whatever I want when I want.

If you love art and drawing, open up your own art store. But there are sooooo many different ways you can sell, post, and make money doing things you love for a living.

5. What’s Your Vision?

Now, I’ve been telling you ideas that’ll make you move forward with making money off your passion.

But it’s also crucial to take a pause and see the whole picture of your plan.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Can I see where and what my plan is leading up to?
  • Would the end result be worth the effort and expenses, if any?
  • Do I love my goal and is realistically achievable?

While it is right to keep going until you make it.

You do have to consider your limits. Because you only have so much time and resources.

Focus on things that are practical and realistic. You don’t have to create the “latest and greatest” to do what you love for a living.

6. Learn More About Your Passion

Learning doesn’t end.

There is always room for improvement. Even when you feel confident about a specific skill. Be open to learning the things you still don’t know.

Continue to invest in and improve yourself and the knowledge you have about your passion by doing the following:

  • Look for a mentor or trainer who preferably has a lot of experience
  • Seek advice from those who are experts in your chosen field
  • Take some online courses or watch videos related to your passion
  • Read books that talk about what you’re trying to learn
  • Practice what you have learned

But whatever you do, don’t stop learning. Your growth and success depend on it.

7. Accept New Ideas

This is related to learning more about your passion.

To improve your skills, you have to accept new information and adapt to change. Know what you do and don’t know.

Because being uneducated on what you’re trying to do can end up costing you. So when your peers or mentors suggest new ideas, sit back and listen.

Great learning comes from hearing other people out.

Even if it’s not what you want to hear. Or is completely the opposite of how you’d go about doing things. Hear people out and try new things.

8. Be Creative

If you wanna make money doing something you don’t hate, you need to find what makes you different. What’s your secret sauce?

The one thing that makes you different than everybody else doing something similar?

Figure it out.

And when you do, focus on using it to your advantage as much as possible. Identify the one thing that’ll give your business or craft an edge over your competitors.

Develop your own personality or theme that’ll make your work stand out. Give your customers or audience a good reason to keep coming back.

Make it easy for them to buy and support you and what you do.

9. Learn To Make Sacrifices

Starting something new often comes with sacrifice.

Even financial ones. You need to be brave and make sure you’re okay missing out on things once in a while.

Because success requires sacrifice.

You can’t do everything at once because your time is limited. Some people even quit their job to focus more on the work they love.

But that decision is ultimately up to you if you want to take the risk. Money matters and there’s nothing wrong with holding down a part-time job until you get things rolling.

Doing so will provide you with more than enough time to grow and follow your passion.

10. Start Slow

Progress takes time.

Doing what you love for a living will also take time. It doesn’t come from going as fast as possible. Many great companies and people started small.

They took meaningful consistent steps.

It’s called progress. Because you can fu*k up and do things too fast and wrong. And I’m not telling you to always go slow.

Just think things through before taking action.

And be prepared. You don’t wanna waste your time or make mistakes just because you rushed things through.

Build your skills first and take slow but well-planned steps.

And try not to burn yourself out. You’re doing what you love, so you should feel happy about it, not drained and stressed.

If you feel exhausted doing what you love then maybe you’re going about it wrong. Maybe you’re going too fast.

So, take a step back. Observe what’s working and what’s not.

11. Have a Plan For Your Money

As you’re earning money from doing your passion, you’ll also be spending some. Especially if you’re running an online business.

Running a business requires money.

So you’ll need to learn how to manage your money and pay your expenses.

Because no matter what you plan on doing it’ll require money and resources at some point.

It could be for ingredients, tools, materials, and other stuff you need to purchase. So have a plan and set aside some of your money.

12. Surround Yourself With The Right People

And by right people, I mean those who support you and what you do.

Those who can help you with it.

Because it’s always good to know and work with people who’ve got your back. And it’s relieving to have people who honestly believe in your capabilities.

So, stay close to people who give you moral support, like your friends and family. But also build a network.

Surround yourself with people that can give you information and help you succeed at what you do. And when you do, you’ll have a network of business partners and people you can bounce ideas off of.

Have a mentor who has gone through the things you’re about to do. They can guide you and give you advice that’ll save you time and money.

And make sure you connect with people who have the same goals as you because you can share tips and lessons learned with each other.

13. Accept Criticisms and Failures

While it is smart to surround yourself with people who support you, you must also listen to the comments of others. Especially people who oppose your ideas.

Knowing their opinions will help give you a different perspective. And reveal weaknesses and things you wouldn’t otherwise consider.

Because sometimes we’re biased. So ask for customer feedback. And note the things you have to improve.

Criticism can either make you and what you do better. Or bring you down.

It depends on how you handle criticism and the opinions of others. But constructive criticism is helpful.

14. Believe In Yourself

Again, don’t take criticism personally.

Yes, it’s good to know what other people think. But don’t let it stop you from reaching your goals.

Instead, make it an inspiration to improve.

And criticism is cool. But stay away from those who don’t have your best interests in mind – doubters. And anyone else who questions what you’re capable of.

But most importantly, believe in yourself.

15. Remind Yourself Why You’re Doing It

When trying to do what you love for a living, never quit.

And when you feel demotivated, remind yourself why you’re doing everything in the first place.

Have a constant reminder and mental inspiration that’ll motivate you to wake up and continue. Because you should love what you’re doing.

The money should only be a bonus.

Satisfaction is the goal. And the satisfaction you get from doing what you love should be enough to make you want to keep going.
