Sometimes you have to tell people “thanks but your opinion doesn’t matter.”
And if you’ve found yourself stressing about other people’s opinions of you, you need to read this.
Life is short.
Someone else’s belief, judgment, or way of thinking about something shouldn’t matter if you don’t value their opinion.
And when you spend time stressing and worrying about what other people think of you, life gets even shorter.
So here’s why other people’s opinions of you don’t matter, and why you should believe in yourself.
Don’t Buy Into It
The opinions of all kinds of people might seem like the most important thing in the world, but it isn’t.
Don’t buy into it.
You need to learn that you don’t need to stop them. You don’t need to surrender to the opinions of those around you.
But you do need to learn that you deserve better.
If you think what other people think of you matters so much, maybe they should be more worried about what you think of them.
But I’m pretty sure they don’t. And no one enjoys being around or talking to a judgemental blowhard. And you shouldn’t either.
There’s a better way.
And hopefully, after reading this you’ll find that once you free yourself from the “chains” of others’ opinions, you’ll finally be able to live life to the fullest.
What are those chains you ask?
Well, every instant in your life that you’ve found yourself worrying about what other people think of you, is a link in your own chain.
Every harsh remark that’s bothered and affected the way you think about yourself is a chain. And when you care about the opinion others have about you, those chains get heavier and heavier.
Over time carrying all of them becomes pretty heavy.
They’re a burden in your life. And carrying them is unhealthy. Those chains need to be broken.
Here’s How to Do It:
- When someone insults you, let that insult go in one ear and right out the other. They’re not worth your time or consideration.
- Every time you find yourself considering what other people would think of you before doing something, do what makes you happy, not them.
- If someone’s opinion of you has shaped your opinion of yourself, you must erase that idea. Burn the ideas others had about you. And create your own identity from the ashes.
- If someone says something negative to you, remember, ‘your opinion doesn’t matter.’ Better yet, say that exactly back to them! Repeat the phrase, ‘your opinion doesn’t matter’.
Once you’ve broken those chains, you need to focus on creating and maintaining a positive opinion of yourself.
You ARE the ultimate Judge when it comes to Yourself.
Your opinion of YOURSELF matters the most. And if you’re happy with yourself and the decisions you’ve made, you’re golden.
But if you’re unhappy with yourself because of what other people think, you need to free yourself from their power over you.
No one needs someone else and their opinions hovering over their shoulder, questioning and criticizing their every move.
That leads to an unhealthy and unhappy life.
The kind of life that you don’t deserve. Because you deserve to be happy. You deserve to be confident.
And here’s how to do just that.
Devalue The Opinions of Others
Before you can create and maintain a positive opinion of yourself you have to work on devaluing the opinions of others.
Only your opinion matters.
When someone has a lot of resources like money and power, they can argue just about anything.
And others will practically eat it up and believe it.
That said, it doesn’t mean they have to. Let’s face it, most of the people with opinions about you aren’t in a position of power.
Their power over you is artificial. It’s a construct.
Because no one’s opinions ever really have any power over you UNLESS… you give them that power in the first place.
In the eyes of nature, everyone is equal.
Nature doesn’t care how much power you have, how much money you have, or anything else. While you might think that people with opinions about you are extremely important people, they aren’t.
You, and you alone, are all that matters.
Because do you know what’s going to happen with all of the opinions other people had of you when everything is said and done?
Billions of years from now, the sun will die and go out. And every nasty fu*king opinion anyone ever had of you will die long before the sun does.
Once the sun burns out, opinions of all kinds, whether they were written down or not will die.
So live like you’re free from the opinions of others. Because you are!
Rejoice and take joy in the fact that you’ll never be held accountable to the opinion of others. Because their opinions are worthless.
The only kind of disappointment you need to worry about is when you disappoint yourself.
Focus on building confidence. Try new things, and learn new skills. Life is an adventure, live yours the way YOU want.
And if you’ve always wanted to try something, but your hesitant to do so because you fear what others might think of you, do it anyway!
There’s an intense, indescribable sense of freedom that comes from disregarding the opinions of others.
And if you’ve always wanted to be or do something but you’ve given up on your dreams to satisfy the opinions of your family, friends, or peers, go for it.
Just do it!
“Your Opinion Doesn’t Matter” – Free Yourself
By now I hope that you know what other people think of you doesn’t actually matter.
I hope you’re ready to start living life as it was meant to be lived, to the fullest! Fulfill your dreams.
And don’t you dare let anyone stop you because of something as flimsy and worthless as an opinion.
Remember, there is no magical record-keeper in the sky keeping track of which opinions matter and which ones don’t. There is no one keeping track of who is right and who is wrong.
So may your opinion of yourself be your guiding light.
Because bright shores and horizons lay ahead of you. All you need is the courage to reach them by freeing yourself from the opinions of others!
