Simply put MenatlVibe’s a site dedicated to growth, personal development, money and this crazy adventure we all call life.
I’ve always dreamed big, wanted to do great things and create something positive others may use. I’m an Air Force veteran who was knee deep in student loan debt and stuck making car payments. But that lead to me falling in love with personal-development, fighting my way out of debt and creating MentalVibe.
I know what it’s like to stress about money.
It’s a terrible feeling that made me walk into Barnes & Nobles one day and buy 7 books about money after just graduating from college that eventually changed my life.
I was always interested in optimizing my finances and starting an online business. But, I didn’t know enough about managing my money at the time and didn’t know who to turn to for advice.
So from that day on, I decided to become as educated as possible, learn, fail and help others online somehow.
And I’ll be the first to tell you I’m no life coach, guru, or expert on any of the subjects I write about on this site. I struggle with things and make mistakes just like everyone else in life.
Even so, that’s not going to stop me from sharing.
Why? Because I like personal-development, learning about financial freedom, and blogging.
And it’s why I created MentalVibe. So I can share, connect, spread and document all of this with others. And help you create an amazing life filled with nothing but good vibes.
MentalVibes Core Principles:
- Principle #1: To inspire, educate and spread awareness.
- Principle #2: To help others master their mindset, manage their money, and design a life they love.
- Principle #3: An online platform focused on simplifying things while having an amazing time doing it.
Ok… Now For The Longer Version – And “The Life of Riley”:
I’m an Air Force veteran living the dream in Connecticut.
I love writing, podcasts, working out and anything sports related. But mostly football, basketball, and a UFC fight every now and then.
I graduated from The University of Connecticut (UConn) in 2013. But so far life has been my greatest professor.
And it’s why I believe self-education is absolutely the key to freedom. I’m writing mainly because I enjoy sharing and it’s a great way to document all things life.
Plus, I haven’t found a great blog yet that’s written by a black millennial and I want to change that.
And I’d love to connect with you and make this something bigger than me. Because “dialog matters; the more we communicate with others, the more complete we become ourselves.”
2009 – From High School To UConn:
My path to adulting starts out pretty much the same as most high school graduates. I graduated and shipped off in the fall to college.
I mean what else was I supposed to do? At that time in life, I was young, dumb and yes broke as they say.
Pretty much everyone around me said going to college is what you are supposed to do next. And I grew up in a Jamaican household so it was kind of expected.
When I arrived on campus, I had no clue what I really wanted to do in my life yet. So, I joined the Air Force ROTC program on campus my first semester. I wasn’t in the best shape of my life either but that changed pretty quick with all the physical training I was required to do.
And unfortunately for me, it was 2009 and the effects of the financial crisis of 2008 were still being felt.
The Air Force had no money to give me a scholarship so I still had a ton of debt after graduating. But, I knew if I made it through the program, at least I’d have a job after and could do a little traveling. I was young and wanted to see the world.
Fast forward to 2013, I made it through the ROTC program and graduated.
Those four years were quite an experience! And though I got a degree I have yet to use, I made some great connections at UConn and had one helluva time doing what young adults do. So, no regrets.
Right after graduating in May, which like it was yesterday, I started my Air Force career 23 July 2013, after driving cross-country to California with the help of my sister.
At last, I was now a brand spanking new 2nd Lieutenant in the world’s greatest Air Force.
2014 – The Air Force Years:
Even though I was proud of the hard work I put in and I definitely earned my commission, I still owed a ton of money and I was still naive.
I’d end up going back to school part-time while active duty to get my Masters. And then a few years later, I’d make another dumb financial decision by financing a new car.
While I was able to afford it at the time, I shouldn’t have bought it. Instead, I could have paid off all my loans faster.
On top of that, I had just moved into a pretty sweet apartment downtown and I thought I needed certain items and… furniture. Enter lifestyle creep!
Which after looking back weren’t necessary at all. My mindset at the time was just like many in their 20’s taking things day by day – “I’ll pay it off later” I’d always say.
Fast forward 5 years and that later is still happening.
Regardless, I’ve grown up a lot and after reading, researching and reflecting on where I’m at in life.
I’m headed in the right direction and I’ve learned a lot.
All of which I’ll eventually be sharing on here so you don’t have to repeat my dumb mistakes.
So… after moving to the west coast and then up north (North Dakota) and finally back east to Washington, D.C., I was now a Captain in the Air Force.
At this point and due to family health concerns, I wanted to go a different direction in my life. So, after my tour was up, I decided to call it a wrap – my Air Force career was complete.
2018 – New Beginnings:
And at last here I am, a little more experienced and grown.
At some point along the way and after sitting on the idea, I decided it would be pretty cool to start a blog.
I want to help others master their mindset, manage their money, and design a life they love.
Getting what you see now up and running now wasn’t easy though.
It’s been a lot of starting, stopping, pausing and starting once again from 2015 until now…
But, I NeverQuit!
And if starting a blog is something you want to do then you’ll get to benefit from everything I’ve learned over the years and from others too.
All while avoiding the mistakes I have made along the way.
I’m committed to helping others. Even if it’s just one like-minded individual like myself.
My goal with MenatVibe is to spread the message that if I can change, get out of debt and find my purpose, so can you.
I am no different than you.
You can do and get whatever you dream and desire in life with the right mindset.
And, if you’re asking yourself, how am I qualified to write about any of this?
I’m not. I’m just a regular guy like I’ve said no different than you.
I’ll share with you the tips and strategies I’ve used to enhance my mindset, money, and life.
Note: Your mindset is essential though.
Because… without mastering it first, you’ll never fully master your money or the many other important aspects of your daily life.
But, with the right mindset, you can and will live life to the fullest.
You’ll make better decisions, save more money, be healthier, and have the ability to provide for those you love.
On MentalVibe you won’t find any quick fixes, overnight results or magic.
Because REAL change takes one thing – time.
What you will find are great resources, recommendations, and strategies that will hopefully make things easier for you than they were for me.
Along the way, I hope to grow along with you and I’m happy you’re here, especially if you’ve read this far. =)
Feel free to use the site and what’s shared as a resource or inspiration while pursuing freedom and your greatest desires.
If you’re not happy right now in life, you don’t have to accept the way things are. Not your current mindset, finances, or life.
You can change for the better as many have before you. A lot can happen in a year.
We’re all facing battles… Just NeverQuit!
