21 Ways to Be a Better Person

Ways To Be A Better Person

You need to find ways to be a better person.

Because life is about growth and gratitude.

We should all strive to be better versions of ourselves. And it’s why I’m asking myself questions like:

  • How can I be a better person?
  • How can I do things better?
  • What do I not know?

And that’s what this list is about. Being a better you!

Because personal development is an ongoing thing.

It never stops.

So, here’s a list of 21 ways to be a better person and become the greatest version of yourself.

1. Know Your Why

You need to know your why.

Why is your purpose. And it’s the reasoning behind everything you do.

  • Why do you get out of bed each morning?
  • Why should others care?

If you know your why in life, the execution required to do everything becomes easier. You’ll go above and beyond when required.

And move towards your vision and achieve what you want in life.

2. Commit to Learning

One day you can wake up and lose all your possessions, your home, business, and money.

But your knowledge and life experiences up to that point cannot be taken away from you. When you learn you grow.

And as Tony Robbins would say “if you’re not growing you’re dying.”

So commit to learning. Read, listen, watch and learn as much as you can. In time and with knowledge, you can always recover lost possessions.

3. Take Responsibility

You are responsible for the outcome of your life.

Not your parents, friends, or anyone else.

You can only blame so much of what has happened to you on others. Because at some point you’re going to have to man/woman up. So… take responsibility for what has and will happen in your life.

4. Practice Gratitude

It’s so easy to be ungrateful. We take a lot of the things we have in life for granted.

Like food, water, shelter, our health, and even the air we breathe. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

When you practice gratitude, you’re focused and living in the present moment.

You appreciate life and what you do have, not what’s missing. And you can become a better person by practicing gratitude. It will make you happier and fill your day with more energy.

So start being present and aware of what you do have instead of the things you wish you had.

And say…

5. Be Organized

I love when my space (desk, house, car, etc.) is clean. I feel better and I’m more productive when there’s no clutter.

When you know where everything is at, you can save yourself time, stress, and brainpower. All because things are in their proper place.

No having to clean up when someone comes over. And when you’re more organized at home you will feel more organized in life.

6. Practice Forgiveness

No matter how nice you are or how much you look out for others in time, someone will do you wrong.

This is why you must practice forgiveness. Because if you don’t forgive others for the wrongs they have committed, anger becomes a part of you.

And over time, this anger eats away at you and leads to bitterness. A bitterness that you might carry around with you for years.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Not when you can practice forgiveness. For forgiveness is freedom. And the antidote you must take if you want to free yourself from a life of bitterness and resentment.

7. Be You!

You are special.

There is no other individual with the same story, personality, or aspirations as you.

You are one of one. So be you! Take pride in knowing you have something unique you can offer in this lifetime.

And don’t ever try or wish you were somebody else.

8. Volunteer or Donate

You can always give.

If you don’t have money to donate, give your time. But no matter make sure you’re not a habitual taker in this life.

Volunteering is Growth

Ask others what they need and never focus only on yourself. Surprise people with your generosity and kindness. And you’ll feel good whenever you do.

The universe has a funny way of giving back to those who give.

9. Practice Saying “No”

Don’t worry about saying “no”.

Your life is busy. You need time for yourself. Stretching yourself too thin is unfair to you, your energy, and everyone else. And when you do, you aren’t able to perform at your full capacity.

Come up with different ways you can say no. And try not to be rude about it!

But learn to say no because doing so will ensure you’re staying committed and true to your priorities.

10. Apologize When You’re Wrong

Sometimes we let our egos get between us.

You know you’re wrong and should apologize but you never got around to doing it. Regardless, saying “I’m sorry” is liberating. And it’s why you should apologize when you’re wrong.

Do it for yourself. Do it for peace. And do it so you can move on.

11. Get Enough Sleep

Your body needs rest, time to rebuild.

So many important physical and mental processes occur as we sleep. Memories are processed. And creativeness is born as we dream.

Our cells are hard at work replicating and repairing. Hormones are regulated and produced. And I could go on and on about the benefits but there are way too many to list!

So, please don’t put off sleep till you die cause you’ll be dead.

12. Figure Out Your Favorite Way To Exercise

Just exercise!!!!

Whether it’s for 20 minutes or 2 hours, make time for it. You can even do quick exercises and get mini workouts in that last only 5-20 minutes at a time.

Be A Better Person

Because your health matters!

When you exercise you have more energy, are in a better mood, and make all the lazy people jealous!

The easiest way to make exercise a habit is to figure out what you like and do it. When you do more of what you love it feels less like a chore.

13. Win The Day

As you’re going through the day ask yourself:

How do I win the day?

What tasks or what’s on your agenda that if accomplished will “win” you the day?

I started doing this and when I asked myself this question, I was more determined to get things done.

And when you do this you’re holding yourself accountable.

And accountable to the goals you’ve made for yourself. If you win the day, you win the week. Win the week, and you win the month. Win the month, and you’ll win the year.

So start asking yourself how do I win the day?

And find ways to be a better person.

14. Keep Your Promises

If you say you’re going to do something, then do it.

When you start making false promises, fewer people will have faith in you. So keep your promises. Promises you’ve made to people and you yourself.

Your word is your bond so commitments we must keep.

15. Schedule Me Time

You matter and the body you’re in is the only one you’ve got.

It takes mindfulness and quality time to tend to your own physical and mental needs. And at the end of the day, you are responsible for yourself, so be nice!

Schedule me time and do whatever you’d like with that time. Me time is important to your well-being.

You’ll be happy you took time out to clear your mind, reduce stress, and gain some inner peace.

16. Embrace Change

Change is constant in life.

And if you want to grow in life you must change. Anybody who’s successful went through hundreds of changes to become who they are. And they’re still changing.

The successful version of you is a completely different person than you are today. And to become that person, you’ll have to do and learn new things.

Grow and leave your comfort zone.

Instead of running and fighting change, turn and embrace them.

17. Use Your Strengths

Capitalize on your strengths. And use them to get to your destination.

Because dwelling on your shortcomings is a recipe for sadness and self-loathing.

Move past what you can’t do or are not skilled at and fine-tune the things that you are good at.

You can be great at anything but you can’t be great at everything.

18. Press Forward – Acknowledge Failure

We will all fail at something in life. And when you do you must move forward.

Because…

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”
J.K. Rowling

So fail. Acknowledge your failure and then move on.

Find new ways to be a better person.

19. Consume Less

Instead, invest your time, thoughts, and money.

These are all valuable resources. And you should use them to live a rich life. Whatever you want in life or want to achieve isn’t going to happen because you wished for it. No… you have to invest.

Invest your time, thoughts, and money to make your dreams a reality.

Put the phone down, get off social media and stop watching so much TV and Netflix.

Become a producer and less of a consumer.

Netflix Won't Create Growth

20. Be Mindful

The way you think about your abilities, intelligence, and potential determines your mindset.

Be mindful – create the right mindset. It will affect what you yourself think you’re capable of achieving. And your attitude to life and its many challenges.

And don’t sweat the small stuff.

Did someone cut you off on the highway? Breathe and let it go. They didn’t hit you.

You must find the positive in everyday situations.

Did your coworker say some snarky remark about how you missed that deadline? Relax, breathe in, breathe out and let it go.

21. Write Down Your Goals

Every morning when you wake up and before you go to bed, you should write down your goals.

You can do this in a little notebook you keep near your bed. And it doesn’t have to be long.

Jot down three to five goals you want to achieve.

And once they’re complete, replace them with new ones. These can be health, financial, spiritual, long or short-term goals.

But try and be as specific as possible.

One Final Note!

I love personal development, and the 21 ways to be a better person I’ve listed above are only a start.

There’s plenty of other ways you can become the best version of yourself.

When I started focusing on personal development my life changed for the better. All because I was more mindful of what was going on around me.

This mindfulness has also led to action. And I’ve been reading, writing, and learning more than I ever have as I make my vision a reality.

I hope everything I’ve covered above motivates and leads to a better you as you try and make your vision a reality too.
